Berignone divenne sede di un'officina monetale a partire dal 1315 per conto del vescovo Ranieri IIIBelforti il quale fece battere monete grosse e piccole a nome proprio e della diocesi di Volterra. I grossi da 20 denari del tipo con stelletta a sei raggi nel I° e 4°descritti sul CNI n. 1 come l'esemplare qui proposto non ci risultano mai apparsi in asta pubblica. Patina di medagliere e conservazione inconsueta per il tipo AG gr 1,6 SPL Rarissima. Per questa moneta non si effettuano pratiche di esportazione. 1,6g 21,44mm
